RCL Arezzo fittings for scale model builders.
RCL Arezzo was the seventh vessel in a class of nine landing craft built for the Marine Division of the Royal Corps of Transport, based at Marchwood near Southampton.
Designed to transport military vehicles, equipment and supplies, these vessels could carry loads of up to 96 metric tonnes. Their versatile cargo decks and loading ramps allowed them to transport a range of military vehicles and containers.
Depending on the load configuration, the vessels could accommodate:
- Four vehicles weighing 16 tonnes each, driven directly on board.
- Four 24-tonne containers, lifted onto the cargo deck.
- One main battle tank, driven on board.

RCL Arezzo model hull
The RCL Arezzo model hull is moulded in white glass-fibre resin and incorporates a range of details based on the original landing craft.
These include the moulded bases for the rubber side and bow fenders, together with the propeller wells in the underside of the hull.
Markings for the wash ports and fairlead positions are also incorporated into the moulding to assist with construction and accurate placement of fittings.
The hull provides a detailed foundation for building a model of this distinctive military transport vessel.

RCL Arezzo model plans
The three-sheet plan set was prepared by Jerry Hitch of Jecobin, using information supplied by Sirmar following an extensive photographic survey of the vessel.
The drawings include detailed views of the vessel’s exterior, cargo deck and associated fittings, as well as the bridge interior.
The plan set provides useful construction information for builders wishing to recreate the vessel’s distinctive loading arrangements and working equipment.
