H.M.S. Andromeda fittings for scale model builders
H.M.S. Andromeda was a member of the Leander Class frigates and was one of the wide-beamed vessels in the class. The Leander Class is particularly popular with model ship builders because of its distinctive hull and superstructure, and H.M.S. Andromeda makes an excellent subject for a detailed scale model.
For our model, we decided to produce a wide-beamed gun Leander, representing H.M.S. Andromeda in her earlier configuration.
Our H.M.S. Andromeda model is available with a GRP hull and dedicated fittings packs containing the components needed to add the detail to the finished model.
H.M.S. Andromeda GRP Hull
The H.M.S. Andromeda GRP hull is supplied in white and provides a strong foundation for building the model.
The usual markings for the main hull components are moulded into the hull, including the locations for:
- Propeller shaft outlets
- Rudders
- Bilge keels
Having these markings already moulded into the hull helps when preparing the model for construction and makes it easier to establish the correct locations for the main running gear and hull details.
The GRP hull can then be fitted out with the appropriate H.M.S. Andromeda fittings to create a detailed scale representation of the ship.

Complete H.M.S. Andromeda Model Fittings

The Wide-Beamed Gun Leander
H.M.S. Andromeda was a member of the Leander Class, a group of Royal Navy frigates that became particularly well known for their anti-submarine warfare role.
The wide-beamed version of the Leander Class provides an interesting subject for model builders, with its distinctive hull proportions and collection of radar, weapons and deck equipment.
Our H.M.S. Andromeda model is specifically based on the wide-beamed gun Leander configuration.
This is important when selecting fittings because the Leander Class underwent various modifications during its service life. Later configurations could have significantly different equipment and fittings.
The model supplied by Sirmar is intended to represent the wide-beamed gun version rather than a later conversion.
