H.M.S Brilliant fittings
H.M.S Brilliant was the third ship of the Type 22 Batch 1 Class. These large, destroyer-sized frigates were an important development in Royal Navy ship design and were notable for their size and advanced weapons systems.
The Type 22 Batch 1 frigates were the first Royal Navy ships to be built without a conventional gun armament and were also the first warships constructed in the UK using metric standards.
H.M.S Brilliant was armed with Exocet missiles, Sea Wolf missiles, 40 mm Bofors guns and torpedo tubes. Both H.M.S Brilliant and her sister ship H.M.S Broadsword served as aircraft carrier escorts during the Falklands Conflict.
The ships are also associated with the first operational use of the Sea Wolf missile system, with Sea Wolf being used successfully against hostile aircraft in Falkland Sound.

The Type 22 Batch 1 frigates were notable for their advanced weapon and sensor fit.
Unlike conventional frigates of the period, the original Batch 1 Type 22 design did not have a traditional gun armament. Instead, the ships were designed around missile and anti-submarine warfare systems.
H.M.S Brilliant was equipped with Sea Wolf and Exocet missile systems, 40 mm Bofors guns and torpedo equipment. Her helicopter facilities also allowed her to operate a Lynx helicopter.
